The book of Jonah is the most readable of all the minor prophets. Some Bible students regard it as a historical narrative, while others look upon it as a symbolic story, teaching that as Jonah failed to do his duty by the people of Nineveh, so Israel failed in its moral and religious obligations to other nations. Christs' reference to Jonah (see Matthew 12:38:41) seems to indicate that Jonah is a historical narrative.
